Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, is a vibrant city that is great for exploring. The historic centre, known as Castello, sits atop a hill overlooking the city and the sea. 

Here, you'll have the chance to wander through mediaeval streets, see ancient fortifications, and visit the iconic Torre dell'Elefante. Check out the Roman Amphitheater and the Basilica of San Saturnino to get a feel for the city's ancient roots, while the bustling Marina district offers a modern Mediterranean vibe.

• Cons: Some beaches require a short drive from the city centre, slightly higher prices compared to less touristy areas

Alghero is a charming coastal city with a relaxed family friendly atmosphere. The ambience of Alghero is a unique mix of Italian and Catalan influences, earning it the nickname "Little Barcelona." 

The old town, enclosed by ancient walls, is a maze of narrow cobblestone streets lined with boutiques, cafes, and historical landmarks. There are a lot of great places to visit here, including the 14th-century Cattedrale di Santa Maria, the impressive Torre di Porta Terra, and the picturesque harbour with its colourful fishing boats.

For families, Neptune's Grotto is a must-see. It's a stunning sea cave you can reach by boat or by taking a scenic staircase carved into the cliff. Nearby, Capo Caccia nature reserve offers hiking trails with amazing views and the chance to spot local wildlife.

For a more educational experience, the Museo del Corallo (Coral Museum) showcases Alghero's rich history of coral craftsmanship. Villasimius is a beautiful coastal town famous for its stunning beaches and clear blue waters. You'll find plenty of pristine coves and bays here, with Porto Giunco and Punta Molentis being some of the top spots to visit. If you love nature, you'll enjoy the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area, which is great for snorkelling and diving. The charming town centre makes a perfect base for your stay.

In the summer, Villasimius comes alive with visitors from all over the world. Even with the crowds, the town keeps its Sardinian charm, and the locals are always ready to welcome you to their little paradise.

You'll love the stunning La Cinta beach, with its 3 kilometers of white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The town center, with its quaint piazzetta, is the go-to spot for shopping, dining, and evening fun.

San Teodoro perfectly blends a relaxed beach vibe with a buzzing party scene. You can chill on the beautiful beaches or dive into water sports like kitesurfing, windsurfing, and diving. Snorkeling and boat trips are a hit at the nearby Tavolara Marine Protected Area.

As the sun sets, the town lights up with vibrant nightlife. Bars and clubs spill music into the streets, and the party goes on until the early hours. Ambra Night, one of Sardinia's biggest discos, is a must-see, while Ripping, a popular beach bar, serves up great cocktails in a laid-back setting.

Olbia, nestled on Sardinia's northeastern coast, is great for seeing Sardinia’s history.  You'll find quite a few sights here that will transport you through time — the most famous of which is the Punic-Roman sacred well of Sa Testa and the mediaeval Basilica of San Simplicio. 

The Archaeological Museum of Olbia is another must-see, offering a fascinating journey through the city’s past with artefacts from various civilizations that have left their mark on this ancient port town. Notable exhibits include well-preserved Roman ships found in the old port and a collection of ancient coins that highlight Olbia’s importance as a trading centre.

Take a stroll along the picturesque waterfront promenade, where traditional fishing boats and modern yachts sit side by side. Don’t miss the 11th-century Church of San Paolo, built where St. Paul is said to have landed in Sardinia. Its mix of Romanesque and Gothic elements reflects the island's diverse architectural influences.

Just outside town, you can explore the Giants' Tomb of Su Monte 'e s'Abe for a glimpse into Sardinia's prehistoric past.
