Seville, the heart of Andalusia, is a city where the rhythms of flamenco fill narrow cobblestone streets, and the scent of orange blossoms lingers in the air. Choosing the right neighborhood to stay in can make all the difference in your trip. Do you want to be just steps away from the awe-inspiring Seville Cathedral and the Royal Alcázar in El Centro, or are you drawn to the local charm and authentic tapas bars of Alameda? In this guide, we’ll help you pick the best area to stay in Seville, ensuring you find the perfect base for your Andalusian adventure.

Best area first-time visitors: Santa Cruz

  • My recommendation: Hotel Murillo
  • Location: Situated in the heart of Seville, adjacent to the Royal Alcázar and the Cathedral.
  • Pros: Picturesque narrow streets, beautiful architecture, and a concentration of major attractions.
  • Cons: Can be crowded with tourists, especially during peak seasons.

Santa Cruz is widely considered the best area for first-time visitors to Seville. Located in the heart of the historic city center, this charming neighborhood is a maze of narrow, winding streets and picturesque squares.

Its central location means easy access to Seville's major attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring. Sure, it can get crowded with tourists, especially in peak seasons, and the accommodations are a bit pricey, but the benefits usually outweigh these minor inconveniences.

Santa Cruz is packed with some of Seville's most iconic landmarks. The stunning Seville Cathedral, the world's largest Gothic cathedral and the final resting place of Christopher Columbus, dominates the skyline. Next to the cathedral is the Giralda, a former minaret turned bell tower that offers panoramic views of the city. The Royal Alcázar, a magnificent Moorish palace with lush gardens, is another must-visit spot in the neighborhood.

The neighborhood is dotted with tapas bars and traditional restaurants serving Andalusian specialties. Be sure to try local favorites like espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas) at El Rinconcillo, Seville's oldest tavern dating back to 1670.

Why I love it: Santa Cruz captures the essence of Seville – its history, architecture, cuisine, and vibrant culture – all within a compact, walkable area.
