Summer crowds thin out so you may enjoy a more peaceful visit. The slight drop in temperatures makes it more comfortable to hike through Chile’s beautiful forests, explore the famous Atacama Desert, or enjoy water sports in the Lake District.

Following on from the summer months, Chile in March brings slightly decreasing temperatures with clear skies and plenty of sunshine, but this can fluctuate depending on where you are in the country.

  • March offers a more relaxed experience. Popular tourist destinations like Patagonia and Atacama are simpler to navigate and explore because the number of tourists has decreased following the peak months.
  • While the temperatures might vary from one region to another, Santiago, the central valleys, and the Atacama Desert are truly year-round destinations. Temperatures in Patagonia in March range from 43°F to 59°F (6°C to 15°C), whereas Santiago enjoys lows around 52°F (11°C) and highs reaching 82°F (28°C).

Is March a good time to visit Chile?

The month of March is an excellent time to travel around Chile, particularly if your goal is to appreciate the natural beauty of the country while there are fewer people and the weather is pleasant. Attending grape harvest celebrations in the Casablanca Valley, which offer wine tastings as an additional perk, is one of the most enjoyable activities during this month.

There are several other things to do that are enhanced by the weather in Chile in March. As the heat of summer starts to subside, there is a special allure to hiking through the Andes, and Patagonia is waiting to welcome hikers and cyclists with awe-inspiring vistas. As in the summer months, the Lake District remains a perfect location for kayaking or paddle boarding. People who are interested in astronomy will find that March is a wonderful time to travel to the Atacama Desert since the skies are clear and the stars are shining brilliantly.
