Things to do in the Philippines in June

June marks the start of the rainy season, but sunny mornings, lush greenery, and fewer crowds still make it a great time to go exploring. Here are some of the best things to do in the Philippines in June to get the most out of your trip.

Cruise the Loboc River

In Bohol, a Loboc River cruise offers a serene escape. Boat trips start at Loboc town, 7 miles east of Corella, and wend their way to the Tontonan Falls. On the way, you will pass idyllic villages, lush green paddy fields, and plenty of jungle. There’s also the chance to dine on traditional Filipino dishes aboard a floating restaurant barge and stop at riverside shacks where local women sing and dance.

Hike to Tinipak River and Cave

Located in Rizal, in the southern part of the Sierra Madre Mountain Ranges, the Tinipak River offers a scenic trek through lush landscapes and wondrous rock formations. Cool off from your hike with a dip in the river itself, or explore the nearby cave with a natural pool inside – it’s worth packing a flashlight.

Relax in Lake Sebu

Lake Sebu in South Cotabato is a tranquil retreat surrounded by rolling hills and cultural heritage. Visit the Seven Falls, take a gentle boat ride, or browse the local T’boli crafts and sample the cuisine.

Explore Kalanggaman Island

June’s calmer mornings are perfect for a trip to Kalanggaman Island between Leyte and Cebu in the Visayas Archipelago. This tiny islet has a spectacular white sandbar, a few trees, and some shaded picnic benches. The clear-blue surrounding waters teem with marine life and thus provide an excellent opportunity for snorkeling or kayaking. You can rent these on the island. There isn’t much by way of amenities, so be sure to bring food and drink with you and charge all your electronic gadgets before you go.

Visit Cebu’s Tumalog Falls

This gentle 100-ft-high cascade near Oslob is best visited early in the day when it is less likely to rain. It’s about 80 miles from Cebu City, so good for a day trip if that’s where you happen to be staying. Since June marks the start of the rainy season, the paths may be muddier then, but the increased flow enhances the waterfall’s power.

The waterfall curtains over limestone rocks into a tranquil, misted turquoise pool – the perfect spot for a refreshing swim. Arrive early if you wish to avoid the crowds. The walk-in through serene forested surroundings is beautiful, too.

Festivals and events in the Philippines in June

Despite this being the start of the rainy season, festivals continue with celebrations of history and community pride.

  • Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival: In Leyte, this festival features dancers painted with intricate patterns to depict the body art of ancient warriors. It’s a lively blend of history and celebration.
  • Parada ng Lechon: Balayan, Batangas, hosts a feast of roasted pigs dressed in colorful outfits during this unique parade. The event is held in honor of St. John the Baptist.
  • Tacloban Sangyaw Festival: This festival celebrates Tacloban City’s rich culture with street dances, floats, and traditional music. It’s a vibrant expression of local pride.
