Is June a good time to visit Spain? 

June is an excellent time to visit Spain. The weather is warm and sunny throughout the country, with temperatures high enough to enjoy the outdoors without the intense heat you’d get in July or August. Whether you’re sightseeing, heading to the beach, or just spending time outside, the climate is perfect for all kinds of trips.

The days are long, with sunrise around 6:30 AM and sunset around 9:30 PM or later, giving you plenty of daylight — around 15 hours — to explore. There’s also very little rain, so you can expect clear skies most of the time. Just keep in mind that the pleasant weather does attract more crowds, so some popular spots can get busy.

Average daily temperatures in June

In June, daytime temperatures usually range from around 75°F (24°C) in the northern coastal areas to about 85°F (29°C) in the southern inland regions. At night, temperatures stay mild, generally between 59°F (15°C) and 66°F (19°C).

The Mediterranean Sea starts to warm up nicely, with the water averaging about 70°F (21°C). It’s comfortable for swimming, especially later in the month. The Atlantic is a bit cooler, around 64°F (18°C).

Basque Country

In the Basque Country, you can expect mild temperatures in June, with average highs around 72°F (22°C) and lows of 57°F (14°C). It's warmer than spring but still cooler than the peak summer months.

Barcelona

Barcelona in June offers warm, comfortable weather, with average highs of 77°F (25°C) and lows of 64°F (18°C). The days are typically sunny and dry, great for exploring the city or relaxing at the beach.

Madrid and Central Spain

In Madrid and central Spain, June brings warmer to hot weather, with average highs around 82°F (28°C) and lows of 59°F (15°C). It's a noticeable jump from the cooler spring temperatures.

Seville and Southern Spain

Seville and southern Spain experience hotter temperatures in June, with highs reaching about 88°F (31°C) and lows of 64°F (18°C). This area is warmer than the rest of Spain, giving you a true taste of summer.

What about the crowd & cost?

In June, you’ll notice more tourists in Spain compared to the spring, but it’s not as crowded as it gets in July and August. It’s a good time to visit popular attractions without being overwhelmed by peak-season crowds.

While prices for flights and accommodations start to climb in June, they’re still generally lower than what you’d pay during the peak summer months. Overall, in June you get great weather, fewer tourists, and better prices than in the heart of the high season.

Festivals and events in Spain in June

June is a wonderful time to discover Spain, with its calendar packed with vibrant festivals and events. Here are some noteworthy ones:

  • The Batalla de Vino, or Wine Battle, takes place annually on June 29th in Haro, La Rioja. Thousands of participants, dressed in white, engage in a wine fight using buckets, water pistols, and other containers. Rooted in a 13th-century land dispute, the event is followed by street parties and celebrations of La Rioja's wine heritage.
  • Madrid Pride, one of Europe's largest LGBTQ+ celebrations, transforms the city with parades, concerts, art exhibitions, and parties. The main parade down Paseo del Prado attracts over a million participants and spectators.  Just be sure to book accommodations early.
  • Noche de San Juan marks the summer solstice in Spain. Bonfires light up the beaches as people jump over flames, swim at midnight, and make wishes for the year ahead. The festival blends Christian and pagan traditions, welcoming summer with music, feasting, and fireworks.
  • Sónar Festival, held annually in Barcelona in mid-June, is a world-renowned electronic and advanced music festival. It combines music, creativity, and technology over three days and nights.
